The history of radio control

Radio or RC control is the use of radio waves to control something remotely. The range of remotely controlled things varies from children's toys to military and industrial applications and space vehicles. Radio control has been around for over 110 years!

Serbian-born physicist Nikola Tesla, an American immigrant was responsible for AC power and for many of the first advances in  Best DAB radios  , radar, and power fields, he invented and tested the first unmanned guided weapons more than a hundred years ago.

In 1898 Tesla designed and built a pair of radio-controlled ships. (This was six years before the Wright brothers flew.)\

Tesla demonstrated the glasses to a surprised crowd in an indoor pool at Madison Square Garden in New York City. They were stunned by showman Tesla, when he stopped and started the boats and maneuvered them in six-foot-long patterns through the water.

This was so surprising at the time that members of the crowd thought that the boats were being piloted by a trained monkey hidden inside or that they were seeing magic and telepathy.

Tesla patented the "Method and Apparatus for Controlling the Movement Mechanism of Ships or Vehicles". This is patent number 613,809 issued by the United States Patent Office in 1898.

The ship was built of iron, powered by a Tesla's own designed electric battery, and equipped with a radiomechanical receiver that accepted commands from a wireless transmitter. The boats were equipped with a large whip antenna, rudders, a propeller, and electric lights. All of this could be controlled remotely.
